From Fighter Jets to Flight Medicine
In the interview, Dr. Jedick shares his remarkable journey — from growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, to earning dual MD and MBA degrees, to flying F-16 Fighting Falcons as a USAF flight surgeon. It was during a medical school elective at Eglin Air Force Base, including a dogfight at 7 G's in an F-15, that Rocky was first drawn to the world of military aviation medicine.
After graduating from the Ohio State University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and completing a physician leadership program at Wright State University, Rocky served as a flight surgeon for A-10 squadrons in South Korea and F-16 squadrons in Northern Italy, accumulating roughly 150 flights in the F-16 Fighting Falcon and deploying to approximately 15 countries across Southeast Asia, Europe, and North Africa.
The Birth of Go Flight Medicine
In 2013, while stationed at Aviano Air Base in Italy, Rocky started a blog about aviation medicine — a passion project that would unknowingly become the foundation of a thriving medical practice. As he describes it:
"Just create something you are passionate about and remain open minded. I unknowingly started my business as a blog because I was passionate in the topic and had no idea it would later evolve into the business that it has now become."
After leaving active duty in 2015 and moving to Salt Lake City for his Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Utah, Rocky expanded the blog into a full-fledged flight medicine clinic in 2016. During residency, he also completed a Space Medicine internship at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The practice has since grown from a single location to five clinics across Utah and Colorado:
- Salt Lake City, UT — The flagship clinic near the 9th & 9th district
- Provo, UT — Led by Dr. Nic Kanaan
- St. George, UT — Serving southern Utah pilots
- Spanish Fork, UT — At the Spanish Fork Airport (opened January 2026)
- Denver, CO — Co-owned by Dr. Pat "Blue" Spruce
What Sets Go Flight Medicine Apart
Dr. Jedick's unique background as a military flight surgeon gives him firsthand understanding of what pilots need. During his time embedded with fighter squadrons, he developed a concierge-level approach to aviation medicine — advocating passionately for pilots to retain their medical certification when medical issues arise.
Go Flight Medicine has also earned a reputation for its innovative approach to HIMS (Human Intervention Motivation Study) evaluations, helping pilots with mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders navigate the FAA's special issuance process.
As Rocky notes in the interview, three qualities have driven his success:
- Passion — A genuine love for the industry and the people it serves
- Innovation — A willingness to apply novel processes and technologies
- Hustle — "Never stopping regardless of the obstacle or challenge, continue to be better — every. single. day."
Beyond Aviation Medicine
The interview also covers Rocky's ventures beyond aviation, including Peak Healthspan — Salt Lake City's first Longevity Health Clinic — and Peak Hydration Spa, a medical spa offering IV treatments. He also received an IMDB writing credit for the movie Revelations, released in 2025.
Outside of medicine and business, Rocky is an avid outdoor enthusiast — splitboarding, rock climbing, and mountaineering are passions he developed while stationed in Northern Italy near the Dolomites.
